With an ambitious investment strategy and an aspirational plan to make our area a place where residents, visitors and businesses thrive, BCP Council is an exciting place to be right now. We’re looking for someone with the financial acumen and professional skills to help us realise these opportunities for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole against the backdrop of an increasingly challenging economic environment.

We have several excellent opportunities for CCAB qualified accountants to join our Finance Team.

You’ll be part of a dynamic and innovative team that are leading the introduction of new financial systems and more effective ways of working. The council is in the second year of a major multi-year transformation programme as we realise our objective of being a modern, efficient and effective unitary authority. You will be key in making a success of our own transformation and those of other services across the council at this exciting time.

For all roles, we’re looking for candidates with the ability to interpret and communicate financial analysis effectively, good interpersonal skills and high levels of accuracy. You should also be able to work flexibly and prioritise demanding workloads.

Project and Management Accountant role

We have 3 roles available:

Project Accountant – the role supports the corporate finance team on key emerging financial matters.

Management Accountant – Operations – this role predominantly supports Infrastructure and Planning Services.

Management Accountant – Regeneration – this role supports the council’s major projects including the Towns Fund and the council’s regeneration subsidiaries.

These roles will report to a Finance Manager. In liaison with senior officers and budget holders, your work will include budget setting, monitoring, and reporting, supporting external grant bids, project work and providing general financial advice and support.

The successful candidate will be CCAB qualified and be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge and relevant work experience of local government financial reporting and accounting, including revenue budget preparation and financial modelling.

The posts are 37 hours, working 5 days per week.

Place of Work

Agile Worker – mostly working from home with the occasional need to travel to workspaces across the conurbation. You should expect to attend the administrative offices or other locations in the BCP area as reasonably required to fulfil your role.  The Management team are happy to consider individual proposals.

*As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We are in the process of establishing a timescale for implementation and colleagues joining us will be included in these changes. Expected to be in place 2024.
