Admissions & Transport Manager

Job Introduction

The pay range for this role will be £52,413 – £60,357 (pro rata for part time colleagues)

Role Purpose 

This is a senior role within our Education and Skills Directorate, shaping policy and driving improvements in school admissions and home-to-school transport. You’ll ensure statutory compliance while delivering efficient, customer-focused processes that give children timely access to school places. Working collaboratively with schools, trusts, and partners, you’ll champion Fair Access and deliver services that make a real difference to families across our community.


Main Responsibilities 

The role reports to the Head of Places and Capital and you will:

  • Lead our statutory admissions and transport services, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Engage senior leaders and partners on policy changes and strategic planning.
  • Manage our resources effectively to deliver cost efficiencies without compromising service quality.
  • Oversee complex processes including Fair Access and appeals and act as lead contact for admissions and home to school transport eligibility.
  • Contribute to school place planning and innovative travel solutions, including the development of independent travel training.


The Ideal Candidate 

Candidates must have 

  • A degree in a relevant subject or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills, and proven experience 
  • Ability to lead, manage and develop the school admissions and transport team
  • Influencing and stakeholder management skills and the ability to build relationships with headteachers, elected members and multi-agency partners
  • Experience of managing resources within the context of local government
  • Experience in implementing change and transformation
