Bar & Catering Assistant

Job Introduction

Role Purpose

Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre are looking for friendly and enthusiastic individuals to join their bar and catering team.

Two Riversmeet is a busy and vibrant community leisure centre with a regular bar and catering service- delivering bar service to regular sport customers and party food to help celebrate children's birthdays.

Main Responsibilities

The Bar and Catering Assistant is responsible for the safe service of bar service- including serving alcoholic and soft drinks and bar snacks as per licence and legal requirements. There are occasions when pre-ordered food is to be produced for an event such as a buffet or hot meal. The bar is typically open week day evenings- predominantly Tuesday and Thursday and occasional Wednesdays. 

The post holder also is responsible for the safe production, serving and clearing of party buffet food to be served as part of the children's birthday party offerings at the centre. This is a set menu which is scaled up based on the numbers- between 10 and 24 people per party. Parties only take place over the weekends.

General tasks include cleaning, restocking/stock rotations and record keeping.


This position does not include key holder responsibilities, budget or line management responsibilities.

The position would include handling card transactions and cashing up. Training would be provided on use of the till systems. 

 Bar and Catering Assistants should be aware of their legal responsibilities regarding allergens, HACCP, COSHH and food hygiene. 

Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex is operational almost all year- with closures typically only for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year. We are open to one or multiple post holders to assist with covering absences and increased operational requirements. Typical shifts are typically up to 7.5 hours each.


The Ideal Candidate

Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex is one part of the leisure provision run internally by BCP Council, so while this is the base location, cross site working may be required to other sites. 

The candidate would ideally have a Level 2 Award in Food Hygiene (or equivalent) and experience in working in catering environment.

The candidate must have experience in cash handling, and working with the public. They should be calm and professionaly when dealing with customers, be motivated and ready to embrace new ways of working.  

Expereince in the use of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams would be helpful. Experience in using digital CRM software and POS systems would be a benefit. Training would be provided on our specific systems.
