Role Purpose
The role of the Carers Community Engagement Officer is to work across BCP Council areas to promote the BCP Carers Support Service by engaging and developing partnerships with all stakeholders that are involved in supporting carers. To understand the needs of carers across our communities, linking with ASC commissioners to support and deliver the BCP Carers Strategy.
Main Responsibilities
Adopting a strengths-based approach, engage with key stakeholders across the Integrated Care System to:
- Increase awareness and identification of unpaid carers.
- Report/escalate areas that require further consideration, based on evidence gathered
- Lead on social media and associated methods of engagement.
- Represent the BCP Carers Support Service at various carers groups, including taking a leading role in the set-up and support of community forums and groups to empower and enable communities to self-advocate and further their interests and needs, both in a face-to-face and virtual/hybrid working approach.
- This role may need to work occasional evenings or weekends to attend or manage events in line with the needs of particular stakeholders.
- Contribute to the co-production of carers' support services, including the communication and marketing materials to help promote greater awareness and community engagement opportunities aligned with the Council’s initiatives.
- Reach out to carers in their own communities, including those who are seldom contacted.
- Promote carers services at community engagement events.
- Create and maintain a knowledge bank to support frontline practitioners and share information about available carers services with all colleagues and professional contacts.

The Carers Team are looking for someone who is:
- Self-driven with a clear focus on improving the lives of unpaid carers.
- Be curious with an enquiring mind, always spotting opportunities to develop connections.
- High level of resilience, attention to detail and calm under pressure.

As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We have been in a process of collective bargaining since 2019 and have positively worked forward to reach an agreed position with the unions for the new contractual offer. This has taken longer than we hoped and therefore we are having to consider all alternative avenues available to enable us to remove inequality in the organisation as a result of bringing together 3 councils.
We are in the process of establishing a timescale for implementation, and all colleagues joining us will be included in these changes. We want to reassure everyone that whichever route is taken to reach the new terms and conditions, we can honour continuous service and there will not be any job reduction as a result of the implementation of Pay and Reward.
