Role Purpose
We have a vacancy within our Café for a Casual Catering General Assistant to join the team. This post is casual, but we expect that it will be roughly 15-20 hours per week. Throughout the year it is likely that sometimes the available hours will increase and at other times will decrease.
Main Responsibilities
- To ensure high standards of food hygiene and management are maintained at all times.
- To dispense food and beverages ensuring quality of presentation and portion control in compliance with laid down procedures.
- To operate equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with laid down procedures.
- To understand and maintain awareness of the safe use of chemicals and cleaning agents in accordance with COSHH policy.
- To maintain high standards of cleanliness in all public areas in and around trading areas, including clearing of tables, sweeping and mopping of floor, cleaning surfaces and equipment
- To provide a helpful and courteous service to all customers, assisting with general enquiries.
- To wear uniform provided at all times.
- To utilise any new technology where required.
- To undertake any duties from time to time commensurate with the grade of the post.
- To comply with all Council and Museum policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Confidentiality and Security.
- To comply with the Council’s Standing Orders, Financial Regulations, Divisional Procedures and any relevant legislation
You will be welcoming people with a smile; preparing and serving food; and helping to keep the place clean and well-presented.
The Russell-Cotes is open to the public six days a week as well as Bank Holidays. Regular weekend work is required, and you will also work on occasional evenings when there are events taking place.
The Ideal Candidate
- Food Safety and Hygiene for Catering, Level 2 Experience working in a catering environment
- Knowledge of Food Safety standards and practices, and of health & safety principles
- Excellent customer care skills
- Cash handling skills
- Ability to work alone yet to be a positive team player within the Museum team
- Flexibility to work different work patterns including evening work, bank holidays and weekends
- Physically able to work practically for long periods of time, lift heavy items, and clean thoroughly and efficiently
- Able to represent the Russell-Cotes professionally, with attention to appearance and standard of uniform, as well as enthusiasm and an interest in a Museum environment
