Chief Operations Officer

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council

Salary £150,000 per annum

Our last two Chief Operations Officers have both gone on to become Chief Executives in their next job.

Our location is well known for its beauty and its appeal for visitors, we are looking for a Chief Operations Officer who can help our residents and businesses reach their potential and protect our wonderful place.

As Chief Operations Officer, you will oversee all of our in-house place-based services. We want someone who will identify opportunities and work in a solution-focused way. This is a diverse role, covering a wide range of service areas which include Environment, Planning & Destination, Investment & Development, Commercial Operations, Infrastructure and Customer, Arts & Property. The breadth of this role will require a thoroughly strategic operations leader.  The portfolio is broad and we need someone with a track record of delivering comparable services at scale.

This is a visible role, and your approach will be key in building partnerships to influence and facilitate system-wide change across the public sector, working in our local communities.   You will also need to bring political nous and experience of working in a similar operating environment. It will be important for you to be able to translate our long-term vision and strategy into operational delivery and play a strategic role in our transformation journey.

As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We are in the process of establishing a timescale for implementation and colleagues joining us will be included in these changes. This is expected to be in place in 2024.
