Role Purpose

The Creative Services Manager is part of a newly formed Commercial Marketing team at BCP Council, which helps drive the income needed by a diverse range of internal clients. BCP Council runs more commercial enterprises than most would think, from cafes and museums to wedding venues and film offices, telecare services to adventure golf. The Commercial Marketing team supports high profile visitor attractions such as Poole Museum, Highcliffe Castle, Beach Lodges, Upton Park, Smugglers Cove Golf, and Russell Cotes House Gallery and Gardens. The team also supports vital statutory services such as recycling, fostering, and family hubs. 

Main Responsibilities

The role will manage and evolve the council brand and have strong expertise in creating multi-channel campaigns that meet objectives, ranging from customer acquisition and retention to awareness raising and behaviour change. Regular multidisciplinary work will be required with Marketing, Corporate Communications, Research, and Web Services, and an emphasis will be put on creative that is informed by the target audience insight. Strategic thinking will also be important, as the council looks to create a coherent brand hierarchy and visual language across the council’s wide variety of services and partnerships.  

This role offers a chocolate box of variety for any aspiring design manager.  

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will have strong skills in designing for digital platforms, including websites, online adverts, video and social media. They will lead a team of 2 designers, undertake design work, set the creative tone for the council, and commission external freelancers and agencies when internal capacity is insufficient. They will be part of the Commercial Marketing management team, alongside 2 Snr Marketing Managers and the Head of Commercial Marketing.

As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We have been in a process of collective bargaining since 2019 and have positively worked forward to reach an agreed position with the unions for the new contractual offer. This has taken longer than we hoped and therefore we are having to consider all alternative avenues available to enable us to remove inequality in the organisation as a result of bringing together 3 councils.
