Deputy Childcare Manager

Job Introduction

From 1 December 2025, our refreshed Pay and Reward package comes into effect, bringing a new approach to how we recognise and reward roles across the Council. This means the salary for this role will be changing. The pay range for this role will be £31,537– £36,363 (pro rata for part time colleagues) from 1 December 2025.

Role Purpose

Little Explorers is a full day care nursery, based in Somerford, Christchurch. We are open for 50 weeks a year from 8-6pm and provide care and education for children aged from 3 months to 4 years. We are seeking a full time deputy childcare manager whom will undertake management and leadership duties in the absence of the manager. The successful candidate will work cooperatively with the staffing team to ensure a safe and high-quality inclusive environment for the children. 


Main Responsibilities

The deputy childcare manager will work with the staffing team to provide a safe, stimulating, educational environment both indoors and outdoors which meets all the required Ofsted standards. The successful candidate will lead on all activities including staff management in the absence of the manager, and will act as a good role model, to build supportive, positive and trusting relationships with children, families/carers, staff and other professionals. 

As the SENCO, you will not only adhere to the SEND code of practice, but ensure that inclusiveness is embedded throughout the nursery environment. You will champion inclusive practices and co-ordinate all related systems and processes, building strong relationships with families and professionals and ensuring records are properly maintained. You will work directly with the children and cover staff absences and support staff by role modelling high quality teaching and learning strategies.


The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a minimum Level 3 qualification with previous experience of having held a deputy role.  The ideal candidate will Ideally have experience in SEND or a willingness to train as a SENCO, and also be qualified to Level 3 safeguarding. 

The ideal candidate will have good communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have a calm approach and be able  resolve problems independently, be confidential and be confident in mentoring others to build effective and supportive working partnerships.
