Calling creative digital communicators
We are looking for a digital communications officer to join our friendly, inclusive corporate communications team on the beautiful south coast.
Are you a digital content pro who keeps up with local and national digital trends? Can you grow audiences on a variety of social media platforms? Do you have an instinct for a good story?

Who are we?

We pivot to address the key news of the day, from environmental disasters, public-health risks or new Government bills. We manage local, national and sometimes international media to protect the council’s reputation.

What is the role like?
You will be based in our Corporate Communications Team and you’ll get the chance to play an important role in developing and growing our digital channels.
You will create and deliver engaging and targeted audio and visual content for social media and digital news platforms.
You will identify the latest trend and be able to pitch story ideas, create original content strengthening our connection with our online audiences, protecting our reputation and winning hearts and minds through your digital storytelling.
What will you be doing?
From housing to health, social care to schools and finances to fly-tipping, we work on a huge range of stories that matter to our residents, visitors, businesses and communities.
You will promote the work of the council through creating digital and social media content for our own channels.
You will be at the frontline of our busy social media channels, socially listening and identifying emerging issues and briefing colleagues on how to manage them.
You'll be a vital member of the team and act as gatekeeper for our digital channels, offering your knowledge and understanding of social media and digital content with both fellow communications professionals and people working in different roles across the organisation.
You’ll provide Officers and Councillors with digital communications advice, making sure we get the right message, to the right people, at the right time.
You’ll be a key contributor to communications during floods, storms or national emergencies, as part of the council’s warning and informing duties.

What will you be doing?
- Frontline of our busy social media channels, socially listening and able to identify any emerging issues online and briefing colleagues on how to manage them.
- Creating and delivering fresh, impactful, targeted content across multiple channels (Facebook, Tiktok, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, NextDoor) to inspire positive engagement
- Helping grow our social media and e-news channels through:
- identify the latest trends
- pitching content ideas
- creating original content
- strengthening our connection with our online audiences
- protecting our reputation and winning hearts and minds through your digital storytelling.
- Providing Officers and Councillors with digital communications advice how best to package and tailor messages on social media to maximise engagement with target audiences and achieve campaign objectives
- Monitoring and evaluating digital media engagement both on BCP Council channels and across digital platforms to inform, develop and improve our work
- Highlighting reputational risks and advising senior colleagues and stakeholders on responses to misinformation and inaccuracies
- Supporting the Digital Communications Manager in fostering and upskilling a digital network of social media advocates within services across BCP Council
