Make a real difference to children, young people and families

Do you want a role where your work genuinely improves lives?
We’re looking for
committed and compassionate Education, Health and Care (EHC) Co‑ordinators to join our SEND Service and play a vital role in supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work at the heart of the statutory Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessment process — ensuring children and families are heard, supported and empowered, while helping the Council meet its legal responsibilities under the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice.

About the role

As an Education, Health and Care Co‑ordinator, you will:

  • Act as the named officer for a caseload of children and young people with SEND
  • Manage statutory EHC assessments and reviews, ensuring timescales, quality standards and outcomes are met
  • Work closely with parents, carers, schools, colleges, health and social care partners to coordinate a joined‑up assessment process
  • Champion the voice of the child or young person, ensuring their views influence planning and outcomes
  • Support families to understand their rights and navigate complex statutory processes
  • Contribute to placement decisions, funding considerations and transition planning
  • Represent the local authority in meetings, annual reviews and (where required) mediation or dispute resolution

You’ll be part of a supportive, experienced team, working collaboratively across services and agencies to deliver the best possible outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working with children, young people and families, particularly in sensitive or complex situations
  • Confident managing casework, deadlines and competing priorities in a statutory environment
  • Knowledgeable about the SEND legal and statutory framework, or able to quickly develop this expertise
  • A strong communicator, able to build positive professional relationships and handle challenging conversations with empathy
  • Organised, analytical and solution‑focused, with the ability to make evidence‑based recommendations
  • Educated to degree level or with equivalent relevant experience

Experience of working across multi‑agency settings, managing confidential information and contributing to service improvement will be particularly valuable.

What we offer

  • A meaningful role where your work directly impacts children and families
  • A collaborative and supportive SEND service with a strong focus on quality and outcomes
  • Opportunities for learning, development and career progression
  • The chance to be part of a council committed to inclusion, fairness and continuous improvement
  • Flexible working options where service needs allow

Additional requirements

  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Ability to travel across the BCP area (with access to a vehicle where required)

If you’re passionate about making a difference, thrive in a role with purpose, and want to be part of a service that puts children and families at the centre of everything it does, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply now and help shape better outcomes for children and young people with SEND in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 April.
