Multiple opportunities • Newly reopened museum • Weekends fairly shared

Poole Museum has reopened after a major transformation - and we’re looking for enthusiastic Engagement Activators to help animate our galleries, support daily operations, and ensure that every visitor has a positive, meaningful experience.

These roles are perfect for people who enjoy a lively, people‑centred environment and want to play an active part in bringing a cultural space to life.

We’re recruiting for:

  • 1 × Engagement Activator (2 days per week)
  • 1 × Engagement Activator (4 days per week)
  • Or join our flexible Casual Engagement Activator Pool - ideal if you prefer choosing hours that work around your life

All roles include a fair and balanced share of weekend working.

What the role involves

As an Engagement Activator, you will help shape the museum’s atmosphere each day - ensuring it feels welcoming, safe, and vibrant. You’ll support both operational needs and public programming, making this a varied, energetic, and rewarding role.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the smooth running of a 7‑day visitor experience, including weekends and evenings as part of a shared rota
  • Assisting with core operational tasks, such as preparing the museum for opening and closing, setting up for events, coordinating visitor flow, and being the first point of contact.
  • Helping to activate the museum’s public programme, preparing activity areas, welcoming participants, and offering practical support during workshops, events, and community sessions
  • Maintaining strong gallery standards, keeping spaces tidy, spotting risks early, and ensuring a safe environment for visitors and collections
  • Using digital tools (ticketing, booking, point‑of‑sale, handheld devices, radios) as part of daily operations
  • Supporting volunteers on shift by providing clear guidance and helping them integrate into the day’s activity

These roles are active and hands‑on - perfect for those who enjoy moving around, problem‑solving on the go, and creating great experiences for diverse audiences.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for people who:

  • Are confident working with and talking to the public in busy, changing environments
  • Can stay calm and responsive when dealing with incidents or unexpected situations
  • Understand what great visitor care looks like and enjoy delivering it
  • Are comfortable making sensible decisions independently when required
  • Enjoy using digital tools and learning new systems
  • Work positively and collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, and partners

What to expect

These roles involve:

  • Weekend and evening work as part of the regular rota
  • Occasional lone working during opening, closing, or quieter periods
  • Manual handling (chairs, barriers, equipment, event materials)
  • Working across multiple museum sites within the service
  • Being on your feet for much of the day, with plenty of movement
  • Occasional travel around the BCP area to support activities off‑site

 Why join us?

  • Be part of an exciting new chapter in a newly reopened, fully revitalised museum
  • Get involved in delivering creative programmes, events, and community‑focused activity
  • Join a supportive team where every day is different
  • Make a meaningful contribution to how people experience heritage and culture in Poole
