Fitness Class Instructor - BCP Leisure (Multiple Roles)

Role Purpose

 To deliver and supervise safe and effective exercise and training sessions to assist clients to achieve their personal fitness and weight goals, contributing to the Health and Wellbeing Strategy of the Council.


Main Responsibilities

  • Engage with clients before training commences to understand their goals and needs, to ensure they receive a training programme that is suitable and motivational.
  • Supervise and maintain facilities to ensure all users are exercising safely and effectively.
  • Design and deliver innovative exercise training sessions, either one-to-one or in a group, tailored to each client’s needs, in accordance with the correct guidelines for health and wellbeing.
  • Deliver inductions and guidance to ensure all customers are offered appropriate tuition in the correct use of the fitness equipment.
  • Demonstrate correct techniques and offer ongoing advice to clients, to ensure they are getting the most benefit they can from the training sessions.
  • Monitor and evaluate client progress, to ensure they are making progress towards their goals and benefiting from the training they are undertaking.
  • Ensure relevant facilities are clean and that any equipment used is set up correctly and in good working order, to ensure a safe experience for all clients.
  • Promote other fitness related classes, offers and membership opportunities to all clients to promote the use of the leisure centre


The Ideal Candidate

  • Recognised Fitness Qualification Level 2 or above
  • Emergency first aid qualification.
  • Experience of delivering gym inductions and reviews.
  • Experience of designing and delivering group and one-to-one fitness training sessions.
  • Experience of preparing, maintaining and cleaning relevant fitness equipment.
  • Knowledge of nutrition, human anatomy and fitness programmes.
  • Knowledge of relevant fitness procedures, protocols, standards and best practice.
  • Ability to communicate with customers in a polite and engaging manner.
  • Ability to plan and co-ordinate training sessions.
  • Availability for shifts which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays. 
  • Flexibility to work between the BCP Leisure facilities, including Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex (BH23 1HW), Rossmore Leisure Centre (BH12 4HR), Poole Dolphin Leisure Centre (BH15 1TN), Ashdown Leisure Centre (BH17 8RE) and Kings Park Leisure and Learning Centre (BH7 6JD).

Applicants to this post will be required to complete a basic DBS check. If applicants are qualified and regularly working specifically delivering classes for children and/or adults on specialist programmes relating to age, disability or illness then the appropriate level of enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service Check will be required.
