Flood & Coastal Engineer

We are seeking a Graduate or early career professional Engineer. Previous work experience is not essential, but a desire to make a difference for the community is! This advert spans three experience bands (outlined in the attached job descriptions) and the interview process will identify appropriate level of offer to the successful candidate. 

The FCERM service has just over 30 staff, including four early career professional engineers. The service has a range of backgrounds and specialisms covering all areas of FCERM, including policy and strategy, flood modelling, coastal processes, contract management, project management, asset inspections, coastal survey and research (including using drone technology/pilots and laser scanning), environmental specialists, and engagement and communications specialists. You will be given the opportunity to learn from colleagues to provide a well-balanced understanding of FCERM sector.

The capital programme for the BCP Council has a clear line of funded projects for the next 5 years, at circa £40M and growing. Our funded projects include the Hengistbury Head Long Groyne Upgrade, Timber Groyne Renewal Programme and Poole Town Flood Defence Scheme. Beyond these we have an exciting portfolio of future studies and business cases to see through to delivery. We also lead projects for other services within Council, and other Risk Management Authorities within the South West. 

The FCERM Capital Projects team currently has six engineers ranging from developing through to subject matter experts. When you join our team, every individual makes an effort to support your growth, development and settling into a new role.  You will spend one-on-one time with your manager regularly to develop training & professional goals, support delivery through clear objectives and monitor your workload and experiences gained.
