Flood & Coastal Senior Engineer
South West Flood & Coastal is a shared service between East Devon District Council and BCP Council. We work with our partners and communities to address the challenges of flooding and coastal erosion in a changing climate. The shared service has exceptional professional opportunities to work across the south-west on exciting strategies, plans and projects. Our geographical areas are renowned for their natural beauty, with long stretches of beaches, complex cliffs, stunning landscapes and expansive national parks.
We’re recruiting a Senior Engineer to join our capital team, which oversees the delivery of a programme of funded projects for the next 3 - 5 years, at circa £60M and growing. Our funded projects include:
- Sidmouth and East Beach Coastal Defence Scheme
- Poole Bridge to Hunger Hill Flood Defence Scheme
- Seaton Hole Coastal Protection Scheme
- Poole Bay Beach Management Scheme

The capital projects team currently has eight qualified officers with diverse skills and experience. South West Flood & Coastal has just under 40 staff, ranging from early career professionals through to sector leading subject matter experts covering all areas of flooding and coastal erosion. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with other experts and share your expertise to help develop engineers of the future, build a legacy and demonstrate the value of our work nationally.
The role’s primary project will be the Sidmouth and East Beach Coastal Defence Scheme. The remainder of the time will involve developing businesses cases, supporting manage the programme, and the management team assess prospective work from other Local Authorities in the South-West. We encourage applications from professionals across the South-West region.
The service has an inclusive and positive culture.
