Greenspace Development Manager

Job Introduction

Role Purpose

The Green Spaces Development Manager has an exciting role that focuses on investing in and improving the quality of BCP's Green Infrastructure for people and wildlife. Managing a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high quality projects. Work closely with Councillors, stakeholders and the public.

Work across BCP Council's varied 2,500Ha of green space, from coast and countryside to destination parks and community spaces. From food growing and community projects, to play areas and landscape-scale change. This role is incredibly varied and every day will be different.

Main Responsibilities

To manage staff, stakeholders and partners in the development of public green spaces in BCP.

Represent the Council on corporate projects and with external partners, funders, groups and organisations. 

Manage a team, allocate work, provide expert coaching according to strategic objectives and foster a culture which reflects the Council’s values and behaviours, whilst meeting income generation targets. 

Manage and develop good working relationships and joint work with Councillors, communities, partners (such as charities, neighbouring authorities, Friends groups and statutory partners). Work with the Grounds Maintenance and Countryside teams and other Service Units who have an interest in and contribute to the development of and investment in open spaces.

Comment on planning applications to secure positive outcomes for Green Infrastructure, nature and against green space standards. 

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with a passion for and extensive knowledge of working in green spaces. Able to deliver green infrastructure projects and with the skills and experience to manage a multi-disciplinary team. 

Degree qualified with experience of partnership working, able to seek and secure funding and good report writing skills. At home engaging with park grounds operatives and senior managers, community partners, statutory agencies and funders. 

You will need great people skills to manage the team, work cross-service, with partners, community groups, Councillors and all the competing demands and opinions that come from making decisions on green spaces.
