Job Overview
- To oversee the maintenance and course management of Queens Park Golf Course. This role ensures that all grounds are kept in optimal condition, meeting the highest standards of safety, aesthetics, and playability.
- To carry out day-to-day supervision of a team of grounds maintenance staff in order to achieve agreed pre-determined standards, within agreed schedules, resolving routine operational problems as required.
Key responsibilities
- To act as the lead, undertaking grounds maintenance operations within a golf course and undertake routine operational problems as required, including schedules for mowing, watering, aerating, and fertilising to maintain healthy and attractive turf allocating work to others.
- Lead the work and coach others on applying insecticides and fungicides to prevent and manage diseases and pests.
- Ensure bunkers are regularly raked, weeded and maintained, including a regular maintenance program being proactive in your interactions with customers using diplomacy when dealing with issues.
- Coordinate and supervise the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, ensuring all work is carried out by a qualified service provider.
- Lead the team to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the course and surrounding greenspace area.
- Supervise and allocate work rotas for greenkeeping staff, ensuring all tasks are carried out efficiently and safely whilst appreciating diversity and considering specific needs
- Seek to resolve any barriers with staff and customers by communicating openly and ensuring a positive culture in the workplace
- To undertake routine inspections/checks as required and trained to perform, taking remedial action to repair any defects, or if repair not possible, report them to the Operations Team Leader
- To recommend, create and implement more effective ways of working that will enhance the condition of the green at the golf course contributing to the success of the team.
- To support on the volunteer program, overseeing volunteers where required offering instruction and training building positive relationships.
- Drive and operate departmental vehicles, specialist equipment and plant regularly and be responsible for basic checks, safety, cleanliness and safe keeping of equipment within area of responsibility.
- Encourage Service Users to comply with relevant Acts and Byelaws and assist officers to take enforcement action and undertake patrol duties, where appropriate
- Develop and maintain relationships with partners, golf club members, local residents, ward councillors and other stakeholders in the operational running of the site.
- Give appropriate responses to enquiries and complaints from Service Users, when approached and report any issues to the Operational Team Leader as necessary
Specific Qualifications and Experience
- 3 A levels, NVQ 4, HND or diploma (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience in green keeping of agronomy, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Level 3 or higher qualification in Sports Turf Management or related field.
- Ability to operate specialised turf maintenance equipment and apply chemicals responsibly.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Spraying certificates and knowledge of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
- Well-developed literacy and numeracy skills
- Good knowledge of ICT including Excel, Word and Outlook

Job requirements
- This role is an operational onsite role required to be based at Queens Park Golf Course
- As part of a 7-day operation, weekend work is a requirement of this role
