Job Introduction
From 1 December 2025, our refreshed Pay and Reward package comes into effect, bringing a new approach to how we recognise and reward roles across the Council. This means the salary for this role will be changing.
The pay range for this role will be £27,254 to £29,540 p.a. (pro rata for part time colleagues) from 1 December 2025.

Role Purpose
Looking to make a difference? We are looking for people to join our existing library teams, delivering important services to local communities. We have 3 part-time Library Assistant posts with varied hours:
Parkstone library: 8.25 hours
Canford Cliffs library: 8.25 hours (temporary post until 13 August 2026)
Pokesdown & Southbourne library: 3.5 hours (temporary post until 2 June 2026)
Main Responsibilities
Work as part of a team to assist in the effective and efficient operation of the library.
Provide excellent customer service, ensuring all customer enquiries are resolved at first point of contact, signposted or referred as appropriate.
Aid the public in the use of IT and other library services.
Promote the library as a community venue, developing and delivering events and activities for children, young people and adults.
The Ideal Candidate
You should have experience of working in a busy customer service environment and the ability to engage positively with customers of all ages. You will be able to work effectively in a team and unsupervised, and have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The role includes working Saturdays.
