Job Introduction
MASTER AT ARMS
Part-time, 20 hours per week · Permanent · £16 per hour (£33,280 per annum pro rata) plus benefits
About the Club
The Royal Motor Yacht Club is one of the country’s most historic and prestigious yacht clubs, set in a stunning waterside location on Sandbanks in Poole. Our members and guests expect the very highest standards, and our clubhouse, grounds and facilities are at the heart of everything we do.
About the Role
We are looking for a practical, hands-on Master at Arms to take real pride in the day-to-day care, maintenance and presentation of our waterfront clubhouse, grounds and facilities, and to help our events and functions run smoothly. Working flexibly across the week, you’ll be the go-to person who keeps the Club looking its best and running safely and securely.
This is a varied, rewarding role for someone who enjoys turning their hand to a wide range of tasks and takes genuine satisfaction in a job well done.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Carrying out minor DIY, maintenance and repairs across the clubhouse and associated buildings – from carpentry and decorating to minor plumbing and repairs to fixtures and furniture.
• Setting up and breaking down rooms and facilities for Club events, functions, meetings and private hires.
• Acting as a keyholder – opening and securing the premises, managing intruder alarms and taking part in the out-of-hours alarm call-out arrangements.
• Keeping the grounds, car park, planters and external areas looking their best throughout the year and secure from misuse.
• Carrying out routine health and safety checks (such as fire alarm tests and legionella flushing) and keeping accurate records.
• Liaising with and overseeing external contractors attending site, acting as the Club’s practical point of contact.
What We’re Looking For
• Proven experience in property, building or facilities maintenance, or a skilled trade background.
• Broad, practical maintenance and repair skills across a range of disciplines, with a sound working knowledge of health and safety.
• Someone reliable, trustworthy and discreet, with the integrity expected of a keyholder.
• Self-motivated, with a proactive, can-do approach and the ability to work unsupervised and manage your own workload.
• A flexible approach to working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends in line with the Club’s events calendar.
• The right to work in the UK and a willingness to join the out-of-hours alarm call-out rota.
What We Offer
• £16 per hour (£33,280 per annum pro rata).
• A share of the Club’s annual TRONC.
• Meals provided when on duty.
• Free on-site parking in a prime Sandbanks location.
• A permanent, part-time contract (20 hours per week), following successful completion of a probationary period.
• The opportunity to work in a beautiful, historic waterside setting as part of a friendly, close-knit team.
