Poole Museum • Weekends essential • Be part of something newly transformed
Poole Museum has reopened following a major £multi‑million transformation — and now we’re looking for a passionate Museum Engagement Officer to help bring our collections, stories, and spaces to life for visitors of all ages.
This is an exciting moment to join a newly revitalised museum service with bold ambitions, fresh galleries, renewed community focus, and a commitment to making culture and heritage meaningful, accessible, and inspiring.
About the role
As our Museum Engagement Officer, you will help shape the way thousands of people experience Poole Museum. You will:
- Design and deliver engaging, object-based learning sessions for families, adult learners, community groups and lifelong learning audiences.
- Create and support dynamic public programmes — from family workshops and seasonal events to drop-in activities, talks, and hands‑on learning opportunities.
- Develop interpretation resources that enrich our exhibitions and galleries and support inclusive, high‑quality learning.
- Work collaboratively across the service with external curators & conservators, visitor experience professionals, and partners to ensure accurate, accessible, and inspiring content.
- Support events and engagement activity across museum sites and external venues, working independently.
- Ensure best practice in collections care, object handling, safety, and risk management.
Weekend working is essential as part of our public programme delivery. Some evening work may also be required.
What we’re looking for
You’ll bring:
- Experience delivering engagement activities in a museum, cultural, heritage, or visitor experience setting.
- Knowledge of museum engagement practices, object-based learning, and inclusive engagement approaches.
- Confidence working with a wide variety of audiences — from school groups and FE/HE learners to families, adult, elderly groups, and community participants.
- Creativity in developing activities and resources tailored to different needs and styles.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work with specialist teams, partners, and external venues.
- Practical readiness for occasional manual handling, lone working, and working in historic environments.
- The ability and willingness to travel across BCP and the wider region for outreach delivery.
Why join Poole Museum now?
- A newly reopened, reimagined museum with refreshed galleries, enhanced collections access, and a vibrant community focus.
- The chance to play a key role in shaping engagement in the museum’s next chapter.
- A creative, supportive team environment with opportunities to innovate.
- A role where your ideas genuinely make a difference to how people connect with local history, our collections and culture.
