School Admissions and Transport Officer

Job Introduction

The pay range for this role will be £28,142 - £31,537 p.a. (pro rata for part time colleagues) from 1 December 2025.

Role Purpose 

The School Admissions and Transport Team in BCP Council Children’s Services are looking for:  

School Admissions and Transport Officers (Band E, permanent, full-time)  

The team work together to deliver the following:   

  • provide access to school places by implementing the school admission process 
  • assessing home to school transport applications for assistance for eligible children  
  • supporting parents/carers, local school partners and other agencies by answering queries and providing advice relating to school admissions and home to school transport eligibility 

Main Responsibilities 

You will be part of busy team of friendly colleagues, dealing with a high volume of enquiries and working with a range of partners.  
 
The Ideal Candidate 

We are looking for individuals with a strong commitment to customer care who can communicate in a calm and professional way whilst being sensitive to the issues facing families and colleagues who are requesting information and help

Candidates must have 

  • A minimum of two A levels or NVQ 2/3 in Business Administration (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong ICT skills including Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Experience of providing administrative support in a busy office environment. 
  • Ability to deliver high standards of customer care and liaise with a wide range of people.
  • Skilled in analysing, compiling and presenting information, including statistical data and reports.
  • Be able to prepare engaging presentations using a clear brief. 
  • Be able to organise meetings including logging requests received, compilation and distribution of paperwork. Keeping accurate notes of discussions and decisions made at meetings. 
  • Experience of diary management for senior officers. 
  • Attention to detail with the ability to proofread. 
  • The ability to work within established process and procedure and to make decisions using criteria and policy.   

The role requires excellent organisational and administrative skills, including effective planning and prioritise of workloads. You will need to maintain accuracy, stay organised under pressure, meet tight deadlines and remain resilient.  
 
We offer the opportunity work agilely (e.g. work from home for the majority of the working week) once training and development has been completed.
