School Admissions and Transport Officers - 2 posts

Job Introduction

Role Purpose 

We have exciting job opportunities to work within the School Admissions Team in BCP Council Children’s Services and are looking for:  

Up to two School Admissions and Transport Officers (Band E, permanent, full-time)  

The team work together to deliver the following:   

  • provide access to school places by implementing the school admission process 
  • assessing home to school transport applications for assistance for eligible children  
  • supporting parents/carers, local school partners and other agencies by answering queries and providing advice relating to school admissions, home to school transport, current legislation and appeals processes. 

Main Responsibilities 

You will be part of a team of friendly and supportive colleagues, dealing with a high volume of enquiries and working with a range of partners.  
 
The Ideal Candidate 

We are looking for individuals with a strong commitment to customer care who can communicate in a calm and professional way whilst being sensitive to the issues facing families and colleagues who are requesting information and help. 

Candidates must have 

  • A minimum of two A levels or NVQ 2/3 in Business Administration (or equivalent experience).
  • Good knowledge of ICT including Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Experience of providing administrative support in a busy office environment. 
  • Experience of liaising with members of the public and staff from all levels of an organisation and providing a high standard of customer care. 
  • Ability to analyse, compile and present information in various formats including statistical information, reports and meeting notes. 
  • Be able to prepare engaging presentations using a clear brief. 
  • Be able to organise meetings including logging requests received, compilation and distribution of paperwork. Keeping accurate notes of discussions and decisions made at meetings. 
  • Experience of diary management for senior officers. 
  • Attention to detail with the ability to proofread. 
  • The ability to work within established process and procedure and to make decisions using criteria and policy.   

The role requires excellent organisational and administrative skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise workloads, the prioritisation of non-standard tasks, work accurately, be organised under pressure, work to tight deadlines and be resilient to the demands and pressures of the role.  
 
We offer the opportunity work agilely (e.g. work from home for the majority of the working week) once training and development has been completed.
