Part Time: 20 hours a week
Mon: 3-6:30PM (3.5) Tues 4-9PM (5) Thursday 6-9PM (3)
Plus admin hours (8.5) With differing hours in the holidays to support our Holiday Programme.
Salary: £17,160 Pro Rata (FTE £30,030)
Role purpose
- To lead the personal, educational, creative and social development of children and young people in Bourne, Branksome and Turlin Moor.
- To help young people to reach their potential, in an environment where they can learn to discover exciting new ideas and activities, experiment, thrive, treat themselves and others with kindness and respect and be positive, motivated and resilient.
- To champion children and young people within our communities and develop partnerships focussed on delivering support to children and young people.
- To be part of the wider work of Poole Communities Trust and share in the values of the Trust.
Key relationships
Reporting to: Charity Manager
Supervises: Young People’s Session Workers & Volunteers
Other key relationships: Local people, local community organisations, schools, BCP Council, NHS services that support young people, Dorset Police and other statutory and charitable organisations.
Key areas of responsibility
1.Work with the Poole Communities Trust staff team, local communities and partners to develop and deliver participatory activities to support children and young people, which are responsive to the needs of each of our 3 communities.
2. The primary focus for this role is to deliver sessions for groups of young people at Bourne Community Hub, at Branksome Centre and Turlin Moor each week, which meet identified and evidenced local needs. You will be working in tandem with the Young People’s Session Workers, or another member of our PCT staff team.
Existing Youth Sessions (term time) -
Monday 4:30-6PM Turlin Moor (plus set up and pack down)
Tuesday 4:30-8:30PM Bourne (plus set up and pack down)
Thursday 6:30-8PM Bourne (plus set up and pack down)
Plus planning & developing our Holiday Programme with differing hours.
3. Have conversations with young people, identifying issues affecting them and how their needs can be met. Identify and refer when specialist support is needed. Support a youth forum to shape the Trust’s work to support young people.
4. Mentor, coach and support individual young people and encourage the development of self-awareness
5. Ensure appropriate boundaries are set and maintained.
6.Undertake the deputy designated safeguarding role and ensure the Trust’s policies are promoted and adhered to.
7. Gather feedback to enable funders and the Trust Board to monitor and evidence the effectiveness of our work and its outcomes. Undertake social impact reporting for young people’s activities and services.
8. Implement operational and health and safety procedures during sessions.
9. Participate in the rota to open and close Trust venues.
10. Help prepare materials for grant applications, including research on need.
11. Participate in Trust-wide initiatives including community special events.
12. Organise staff & volunteer rotas and offer support and training to colleagues and volunteers on issues related to young people.
13. Support the promotion of our services through social media, information screens and directly to the local community.
14. Respond positively and constructively to feedback from local communities.
15. Developing and reviewing our young people’s strategy and championing the voice of young people.
16. As the Trust is a small organisation which works very much with a team ethos, the post holder will need to be very flexible and be ready to cover a range of other tasks as required.
