Traffic Technician, Traffic Team

Job Introduction

Role Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Traffic Team in the Transport & Sustainable Travel Service at BCP Council with a Traffic Technician required to bolster the team and bring a level of experience and knowledge ensuring the efficient management of the highway network through permanent and temporary traffic management solutions to minimise disruption to the travelling public and minimise their risk of injury.


Main Responsibilities


This post will primarily be aligned with progressing Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders and Notices (TTRO’s and TTRN’s) with internal and external partners, through the administration, legal and One Network mapping process. Familiarity, or experience of working with legislation related to highways and traffic management such as the Traffic Management Act 2004 and the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991 is desirable, however not essential as on the job and external training will be provided. You will have excellent communication and IT skills as this role will involve daily interaction with external and internal works promoters and use of traffic management IT systems including One Network.

 Although primarily focused on management of the highway network, there may be opportunities to take on other functions in the team depending on workloads. This includes working with communities on local traffic management solutions and contributing to taking forward the council’s capital improvement programme to support the delivery of Local Transport Plan objectives including active travel options in collaboration with the councils engineering, planning and sustainable travel teams and wider in-house teams as well external stakeholders on cycling, walking and public transport improvements. 


The Ideal Candidate

Entry level for the posts at either Grades F, G and H will depend on qualifications and experience as outlined in the Job Description for the grade levels. 

 The role has flexibility on work location being based at BCP Civic Centre in Bournemouth with working from home opportunities.
