Could you engage local people in community centre café activities and services as a welcoming front-of-house role? Can you support the values of our thriving charity working in Poole?

The post holder will work across our two community café spaces in Branksome Centre and Bourne Community Hub and deliver outreach to communities in Turlin Moor working closely with local partner organisations. We aim to create a warm and welcoming environment for a wide range of people in the local communities, and this post holder will engage with many different age ranges across all three of our project areas. They will give a listening ear to people wanting to talk and share issues, help them tackle loneliness and isolation and bring people together.

Key tasks include:

Supporting a weekly afternoon session in the pop-up Warm Space alongside our Community Food Store at Turlin Moor, working with partner organisations and volunteers. Hot drinks and snacks are served already; we want to enhance the offer to the community with food/drink workshops, and conversations that provide support with cost of living, and build community connections by responding actively to suggestions and needs of the residents.

Planning, preparing and serving basic healthy food including soups, hot jacket potatoes, sandwiches etc for two lunchtime sessions weekly at Bourne Community Hub acting as front of house and supported by volunteers.

Delivering a hot and cold drinks and snacks offer for two sessions a week at Branksome Centre acting as front of house and supported by volunteers.

The post holder would work independently and with others in the team to plan activities in the community cafes and Warm Spaces including:

  • healthy eating ideas and food demonstrations
  • special occasion participatory events for different ages (for example, Easter egg decorations, summer smoothie making)
  • cost of living support sessions (working with partner organisations)
  • activities such as table-top games and books for fun and relaxation
  • support occasional Family Fun Days, Christmas events, coffee mornings.

The post holder would support existing volunteers and welcome onboard new helpers to support the cafes and other activities that Poole Communities Trust offer.
