Area Programme Manager - Foundation Skills and Learner Support

We are seeking an Area Programme Manager who is passionate about people, their communities and the positive impact that learning can have, to join our Foundation Skills and Learner Support team. This is a permanent, full time management position.

Role Purpose

Skills & Learning currently offers over 600 courses, across Dorset in over 30 locations. You will join a team consisting of a Curriculum Manager, other Area Programme Managers and Learning Support Managers. Key objectives of the post holder are to:

  • plan, design, programme, manage and quality assure the ICT and Digital skills curriculum 
  • line manage, support and develop tutors
  • provide additional management resource for the growing ESOL programme alongside another Area Programme Manager
  • work collaboratively with other teams and referral partners to promote and recruit to the programme

The portfolio of programme areas to manage is subject to change.   

The role also requires attending meetings and regular visits to learning activity at all delivery locations (county-wide and online).

Main Responsibilities

 

You will be accountable for planning, delivering, managing and quality assuring a programme of courses, both classroom-based and online, which meet the changing needs of learners and employers across the county. This will involve a range of quality assurance activities such as visits to lessons and performance review meetings with awarding organisations. The programme will include courses developed for adults, in response to ESFA, community and local skills improvement plan priorities. 

 

The Ideal Candidate

This is a managerial role within an education setting and management skills and teaching experience are essential. You will performance manage a team of tutors as well as manage the quality of the programme so our ideal candidate will be someone with a background in adult education, with excellent communication skills, who has experience in managing teams and can support the quality of education provided in the curriculum area.  You will have a flexible approach to working hours as our programmes run during the day, evenings and some weekends so there will be times when you are required to work outside of usual working hours. You will also be able to travel across Dorset for meetings and quality assurance activities.

You will have a recognised level 5 teaching qualification. 

The role will involve hybrid working. You can work from our learning centres, other BCP Council touch down spaces and home.
