Best Interest Assessor / Approved Mental Health Professional

Job Introduction


From 1 December 2025, our refreshed Pay and Reward package comes into effect, bringing a new approach to how we recognise and reward roles across the Council. This means the salary for this role will be changing. The pay range for this role will be £47,181 – £53,460 (pro rata for part time colleagues) from 1 December 2025.

Role Purpose

BCP Council have an exciting opportunity for a full time qualified Best Interest Assessor to join a vibrant, and established DoLS team. We would welcome applications from Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Psychologists who hold the relevant Best Interest Assessor qualification. You may also have an AMHP qualification, or be willing to train as an AMHP (salary range reflects this additional qualification).

 Main Responsibilities

You will carry out statutory Best Interest Assessments throughout Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. You will contribute to our Duty service - triaging referrals, and providing support and guidance around DoLS and the MCA to practitioners in the BCP area.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to the running and delivery of Mental Capacity forums and will have regular good quality supervision.  We are committed to supporting practitioners to develop their legal literacy, and provide a person centred and creative service, keeping the person at the heart of what we do. 

The Ideal Candidate

You must hold a Best Interest Assessor qualification under the DoLS, and ideally you will have experience of undertaking DoLS assessments. If successful, you will join a creative and highly motivated team of practitioners and managers who work positively to promote the human rights of adults across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
