General Tutor

Job Introduction

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic General Tutor to deliver both accredited and non-accredited courses to adults in the BCP and Dorset Council areas, who can support learners to develop:

Effective communication skills

Digital literacy

Critical thinking skills

Resilience

Organising and time management skills

through a course or programme that also develops Employability, Cookery, Childcare, local general interest/conservation or IT skills.


The areas we are delivering these courses in are:

Weymouth

Swanage

North Dorset

plus other locations in Dorset


Hours, locations and subject areas are negotiable and we will consider either a salaried part time tutor or a variable hours tutor.

Skills & Learning is a top performing Adult Community Education (ACE) provider, previously shortlisted for Provider of the Year in the prestigious Times Education awards and for Large Team of the Year with Local Government Chronicle awards in 2024

Ofsted judge the service as ‘Good’ overall and the quality of Information, Advice and Guidance is independently checked and endorsed by Matrix

We offer adult learning courses in over 30 venues across the county and deliver our courses throughout the year. 


Essential Requirements:

  • L3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent, or willing to work towards one
  • English and maths qualifications at grade 4/C or above or equivalent

Desirable:

  • Experience of teaching or delivering training to adults
  • L4/L5 Certificate/Diploma in Education and Training or equivalent
  • Knowledge in one or more of the advertised subject areas

Successful candidates:

  • Will be expected to teach across Dorset

In return:  

  • Weekly contact hours and locations are negotiable dependant on contract type

Tutors are expected to adhere to the Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers developed by the Education and Training Foundation.
