Highways Operative

Job Introduction

BCP (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole) Council’s Highway Delivery Team are looking for Skilled Highway Operatives to join us in the delivery of works including Routine Maintenance, Construction Schemes, Traffic Management, Winter Service provision and much more.  Do you have experience in the following types of Highway Work and are committed to improving the public highway for our residents and visitors? 

 

  • Experience in Highways Maintenance – patching, remedial repairs 

  • Experience in Highways Construction/Resurfacing - Small and Major highway     improvement schemes to the network 

  • Experience in the deployment of Traffic Management on rural and urban roads,     including high speed networks 

  • Class C1 or Class C driver’s license 

  • Ability to remain calm and polite when engaging with members of the public 


Candidates will need to refer to the Job Description (JD) and complete ain-depth supporting statement, with examples where you meet the criteria questions.  

 

The successful candidates will operate from either Hatch Pond Road Depot or Southcote Road Depot.

Our Highway Maintenance Operative roles within BCP Council are currently subject to receipt of a Labour Market Supplement of £100 per month subject to the outcome of BCP Council’s Pay & Reward review.

As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We are in the process of establishing a timescale for implementation and colleagues joining us will be included in these changes.
