Inclusion Officers CME and EHE

Job Introduction

Role Purpose

Inclusion Officers work with families, schools  and other partners to ensure children have access to a suitable education.

We have three positions available - two positions within the Elective Home Education (EHE) Team, and one position within the Children Missing Education (CME) team.

The EHE positions are:

1 x 29.6 hours per week (.8)

1 x 37 hours per week (full time)

Both positions work through the year (not term time only)

The CME position is:

20 hours per week, term time only

Main Responsibilities

EHE:

As an Inclusion Officer for EHE, you will be meeting and talking to parents who are home educating their children to understand how the education at home is suitable for the young person. You will be considering the child's abilities, interests and needs, alongside the parents' views and statutory guidance in order to decide whether the education is suitable.

CME:

As an Inclusion Officer for CME, you will be working with schools, parents and Admissions colleagues to track children back into education. You will be liaising with BCP services, schools, other local authorities and agencies to locate children as well as making home visits to support parents to ensure their child has a school place.

The Ideal Candidate

EHE: You may have a teaching qualification but will certainly have experience of working directly with children and families, preferably with experience of assessing needs in some form. The right candidate will also be a skilled spoken and written communicator as well as having excellent organisational and time management skills. You will be able to maintain excellent case records.

CME: You will have experience of working in some field or related field of education and be passionate about children's education. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be a competent IT user, able to work across different systems. You will have experience of maintaining accurate case records.

Both CME and EHE Officers work in a small, friendly and supportive team with clear processes. We are a busy team and the right candidate will be used to a lively pace of work. The CME and EHE teams were recently assessed as 'good' by Ofsted.

About BCP Council

BCP Council provides services to a diverse community of 400,000 residents and employs more than 5,000 people.  Our area includes over 15 miles of beautiful world-renowned coastline.  We can offer career defining roles to transform and improve services.  By working with us, you can help deliver a vision of a thriving, word-class, prosperous and inclusive place for generations to come.

Our Benefits

We offer an excellent benefits package for further details see here

As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We have been in a process of collective bargaining since 2019 and have positively worked forward to reach an agreed position with the unions for the new contractual offer. This has taken longer than we hoped and therefore we are having to consider all alternative avenues available to enable us to remove inequality in the organisation as a result of bringing together 3 councils.

We are in the process of establishing a timescale for implementation, and all colleagues joining us will be included in these changes. We want to reassure everyone that whichever route is taken to reach the new terms and conditions, we can honour continuous service and there will not be any job reduction as a result of the implementation of Pay and Reward.  If you have any questions at all about this process, please feel free to raise this with the hiring manager.

Applicants to this post will be required to complete the appropriate level of Disclosure & Barring Service Check. Please refer to the Job Description or Role Profile for more details.
