Occupational Therapy Assistant/Care Manager (Sight & Hearing Team)

Job Introduction

Role Purpose

  • To assess the needs of vulnerable adults with sensory loss..
  • To ensure that the provision of equipment, adaptations, advice support and all other services required to meet identified needs is arranged and reviewed in an efficient, sensitive, and cost-effective manner.

 Main Responsibilities

  1. Carrying out needs led assessments, implementation, commissioning, ordering, monitoring and reviewing care and support plans and service provision, including the supply and installation of equipment and adaptations.
  2. After a period of induction and training, taking responsibility for workload cases, which will entail visiting clients within the community setting, liaising with other staff in Acute and Primary Health Care, adult social care and Provider Organisations to ensure that identified needs are being met in the most effective way possible.
  3. After training, providing advice, support and information to clients, their families and carers, members of the public, and other professionals, about all aspects of service provision for adults, including attendance at public promotional events.
  4. To contribute to the Unit’s objective of ensuring the provision of high quality, cost effective services to vulnerable adults living in BCP council.
  5. To undertake such training as may be required to ensure that the duties of the post are carried out efficiently and effectively.
  6. To maintain essential records of work done, and to provide information for statistical, financial, and planning purposes.
  7. To input and access information on Unit computer databases.
  8. To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time commensurate with the level of the post.
  9. To actively partake in regular supervision.
  10. To comply with all decisions, policies and standing orders of the Council and any relevant statutory requirements, including the Equality Act, the Health and Safety at Work Act and GDPR.

The Ideal Candidate

You will need good organisational skills to manage a varied individual caseload undertaking assessment and support planning. You will be mainly responsible for the supply and installation of specialist equipment for people with hearing difficulties but also setting up packages of care that involves communication support either commissioned or through Direct Payments.  You must be able to prioritise your work daily. 

You will need to be confident with the use of basic IT systems and inputting of data. In addition, you will need to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills and an understanding of the importance of multi-disciplinary working on application and at interview.

The Sight and Hearing Team are a small, developing and highly supportive team, committed to delivering quality services to the population in the BCP Council area. The successful candidate can expect to receive regular 1:1 supervision, full induction programme and specialist training in British Sign Language and Deaf Blind assessment. There may also be future opportunities to apply for a Rehabilitation Officer for the Visually Impaired (ROVI) Apprenticeship which involves study at Birmingham City University.
