SEND Resolution Officer

Grade: BCP 9 | SEND Service | 2 full-time posts

Make a difference when it matters most

Are you someone who can bring clarity to complex situations, build positive relationships and stay calm when the pressure is on?

We’re looking for two SEND Resolution Officers to join our SEND Service. This is an important role helping to ensure that SEND appeal and resolution processes between the Local Authority, children, young people and families are fair, equitable and compliant with statutory duties.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll manage your own caseload of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Tribunal appeals, taking cases from registration through to conclusion and making sure they progress effectively and within required deadlines.

No two cases will be quite the same. You’ll:

  • Prepare responses, case statements, written submissions, evidence bundles and other Tribunal documents
  • Review evidence from education, health and social care professionals, identifying gaps or areas requiring clarification
  • Work closely with parents, carers, young people, education settings, professional witnesses, legal representatives and colleagues
  • Look for opportunities to resolve disputes early through constructive conversations, mediation and negotiation
  • Attend and represent the Local Authority at SEND Tribunal hearings, case management hearings and Judicial Alternative Dispute Resolution proceedings
  • Monitor decisions and agreed outcomes, helping to make sure the required actions are implemented
  • Maintain accurate case records and monitor deadlines, progress and outcomes
  • Help identify recurring issues and opportunities to improve the quality and effectiveness of the service.

Who we’re looking for

This role would suit someone who combines strong organisation and attention to detail with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

You’ll need a degree or a high level of relevant experience in education or a legal context, together with evidence of in-depth training relating to legal and/or SEND processes.

Just as importantly, you’ll be someone who is:

  • Resilient and calm under pressure
  • Highly organised, with excellent time-management skills
  • Comfortable handling detailed information and competing deadlines
  • Able to work constructively with a wide range of people, including when issues are complex or sensitive
  • Focused on achieving fair, evidence-based and timely outcomes.

Why this role matters

Behind every appeal is a child or young person and a family looking for a way forward.

You’ll have the opportunity to help ensure decisions are properly evidenced, statutory responsibilities are met and disagreements are approached constructively. Your work will directly support fair and effective SEND processes across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

If you’re motivated by purposeful work, enjoy managing complex cases and can balance attention to detail with a human approach, we’d love to hear from you.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact farhad.zaman@bcpcouncil.gov.uk or lisa.hutt@bcpcouncil.gov.uk

Closing date – Monday 9th November.

Interviews will be held on Friday 13th November.

Please note, this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship and we can only consider applicants with existing right to work in the UK.
