Sessional Worker

Job Introduction

The BCP Council Short Breaks Team are recruiting sessional workers to join their fun, creative and diverse team. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who have experience of working with children and young people with SEND, or who are keen to develop their skills and further their personal or professional development.

BCP Council Short Breaks Service runs an activity programme for children and young people with SEND, during term time in the evenings and during school holidays. The services support those aged 0-25, through activities and a youth provision for the young people as they progress towards adulthood. As the contract is casual, it provides flexible working hours for successful candidates who may have other jobs or are in education. Staff share their availability prior to the delivery of a programme and are then allocated shifts. Ideally, we ask that staff be available for a minimum of 4 hours per holiday period. There is an expectation for sessional workers to travel to various locations across BCP for the delivery of activities. Support with travel costs are available

There is also opportunity for other types of sessional work during term time and holiday periods, in 1:1 direct work with children and young people to support them to access activities and providing parents/carers with a break.

We offer good rates of pay, training opportunities, staff meetings and 1:1 staff supervision. This ensures that our staff feel supported in their roles, which will then impact on their ability to provide a safe and high-quality service to the children and young people we support.

This service supports children and young people with complex support and care needs. We would welcome applications form people who have experience of working in a specialist setting and those who would like to develop specialist skills to support these children.

If you would like an informal discussion to understand the role please contact Nicola Balson or Jayde Humphries on 01202 126222

Our Benefits

We offer an excellent benefits package for further details see here

As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We have been in a process of collective bargaining since 2019 and have positively worked forward to reach an agreed position with the unions for the new contractual offer. This has taken longer than we hoped and therefore we are having to consider all alternative avenues available to enable us to remove inequality in the organisation as a result of bringing together 3 councils.

We are in the process of establishing a timescale for implementation, and all colleagues joining us will be included in these changes. We want to reassure everyone that whichever route is taken to reach the new terms and conditions, we can honour continuous service and there will not be any job reduction as a result of the implementation of Pay and Reward.  If you have any questions at all about this process, please feel free to raise this with the hiring manager.
