We are looking for volunteers to serve as independent panel members for admission appeals that are received by our academies.
Appeal panel hearings take place during term time throughout the school year. The peak period is between May and July.
About this Role:
The appeal panel consists of 3 trained volunteers who are required to:
- Advise of their availability for hearings
- Prepare for the appeal hearing by reading all documentation prior to the meeting
- Attend the hearing to consider the admission appeal ensuring that it is conducted fairly, transparently and impartially
- Follow the Schools Admissions Appeals Code when making decisions to uphold or dismiss the appeal
The appeal hearings may be in person or conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams.
What we have to offer:
- Panel members are supported by the Trust’s Governance Team who administer the appeals process and provide advice and guidance.
- Comprehensive training is provided to all new volunteers with ongoing support available to all panel members throughout the year.
- Our panel members are supported by an expert independent governance professional in the role of panel clerk at all hearings to ensure that the correct procedures are followed as set out in the Appeals Code.
