Joining a small team, you will work in our Commercial Office(s) based at the Poole or Bournemouth Recycling Centres. You may be required to work at both sites on a rota basis.
To help develop and maintain an infrastructure that enables BCP Council residents and businesses to manage their waste safely and sustainably.
To work as part of a team in operating commercial waste services and resolving problems arising during the operational day. Manage customer contacts including problem solving and provide excellent service.
The main focus of the post is to provide a high level of customer service to both our residents and commercial customers, face to face, on the phone and in writing. The work is varied; and as part of a small but busy team you will be responsible for collating and handling data relating to waste management, including some financial management around billing, invoicing, taking payments and some selling of our commercial services.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be committed to high standards of accuracy as attention to detail is a must. Use of several databases is required; however full training will be given.
As part of the Strategic Development team, which manages Waste and Open Spaces, you’ll be committed to improving the environment for our residents and businesses. It would be an advantage to have experience or knowledge of waste disposal, but it is more important that you are an excellent communicator and a strong team player and will fully engage in working towards the Council’s purpose and values.
The Commercial Waste Officer will play an active role in a multi-skilled team and there will be plenty of opportunities to develop your own skills and contribute to the direction of the service.
For an informal discussion please contact Ellen Adby (Site Supervisor) on 01202 126692 or Laura Neil (Commercial Waste Manager) on 01202 128073.

As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We are in the process of establishing a timescale for implementation and colleagues joining us will be included in these changes. This is expected to be in place in 2024.
