Job Introduction
From 1 December 2025, our refreshed Pay and Reward package comes into effect, bringing a new approach to how we recognise and reward roles across the Council. This means the salary for this role will be changing. The pay range for this role will be £26,403 – £28,142 (pro rata for part time colleagues) from 1 December 2025.
Currently the Recruitment & Retention Supplement for this role is a fixed amount of £100 per month (pro rata for part time colleagues)

Recruitment and Retention Supplements are in addition to the base salary. They are temporary, and awarded solely at the discretion of BCP Council, in accordance with our Interim Salary Supplement policy, which will be replaced by the new Pay and Allowances policy being introduced on 1 December 2025.

Role Purpose

BCP Council need a Site Operative to work at Millhams Recycling Centre, Ringwood Road, Bournemouth. The successful candidate will work as part of a flexible and multi skilled team, contributing to the daily operations of the Council’s Recycling Centre.
Main Responsibilities
Daily activities include sorting waste and recyclable material, loading and sweeping up. In this role, you will ensure the Recycling Centre is clean, maintained and safe for all site users. Good communication skills are essential to assist with resident’s questions and , direct them with their waste and recycling disposal.
The Ideal Candidate
No previous waste experience is required. The role can be physically demanding and involves being outside in all weathers. We want to give successful candidates the opportunity to learn new skills, therefore training can be provided such as plant driver/operator training.
The full-time post is 37 hours a week working on a fixed rota basis, including weekends and Bank Holidays. BCP Council's Recycling Centre are open 362 days a year, only closing on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
