Job Introduction

Role Purpose

BCP Council are looking for a dynamic and proactive Site Supervisor to manage the daily operations of our Poole Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station. 

 Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate must enjoy working as part of a flexible and multi-skilled team. You will manage two Team Leaders, six Site Operatives and direct various contractors and operational staff using the site. 

The Site Supervisor oversees a range of site activities, including use of on-site vehicles, weighbridges, household and commercial waste disposal, as well as tipping and bulking in the Transfer Station.

Daily duties include responsibility for site safety and compliance with the environmental permit, plus managing waste on site, monitoring and arranging collections as needed. 

With approximately 250,000 residents using the Recycling Centre each year, you will be responsible for a variety of customer-facing activities to ensure site policies are followed and any arising issues are managed. 

The role involves responsibility for safe handling of payments received on site and spend controls for site activities. The successful candidate must have strong numeracy, literacy and IT skills and be receptive to training on software packages to manage purchase orders and HR processes.

The Site Supervisor, assisted by management, helps develop new policies or processes for site or service improvements.

The role is 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday, but may include some occasional weekend working as needed.  

You will be working closely with a team of Supervisors who manage BCP Council’s other Recycling Centres, Transfer Stations and  Commercial Waste Operations. There may be a requirement to cover other supervisor roles and occasionally work at other locations within the BCP area.

If you have experience of working in the waste industry, leading and developing motivated teams, calmly resolving problems and delivering an excellent customer experience then we have an exciting opportunity for you! 

There will be a requirement to hold or study towards the CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 High Risk Operator Competence for Managing Transfer of Hazardous Waste qualification, IOSH Level 4 Managing Safely, and if this is the career for you, we can identify further development and continuing opportunities.
