Role Purpose

Kings Park Leisure and Learning Centre are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and driven individual to join their evolving team.

Formerly the Bournemouth Indoor Bowls Centre, this facility is undergoing an exciting period of change and investment to further become a fantastic and beneficial asset to the local community. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a growing team and this role will offer you flexibility and variety. 

The site already hosts Adult Skills and Learning on the upper floor, while the ground floor is currently used by sport and community groups and for 'one off' functions.

Main Responsibilities

The Duty Officer is responsible for the overall day to day running of the leisure facility including overseeing evacuations in the event of an emergency and providing first aid where needed. 

This position includes key holder responsibilities for opening up or securing the building each day. 

The tasks may include routine administration such as taking bookings and card payments, answering phone calls and emails and customer enquiries to ensure that exceptional levels of customer care are met at all times.

Duty Officers are also required to assist with routine facility Health and Safety checks and maintenance such as performing weekly fire alarm and emergency lighting checks, reporting equipment faults, basic cleaning (e.g emptying bins and hoovering) as required. The Duty Officer will also be trained in the facilities plant areas and will be required to provide testing and maintenance- this could include swimming pool water testing and treatment or similar. 

Kings Park Leisure and Learning Centre is operational almost all year- with closures typically only for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year. The Duty Officer team work in shifts to cover the operational hours of the facility which currently include Monday to Sunday 08:00 to 22:30. We are open to one or multiple post holders to cover up to 37 hours per week. Typical shifts are up to 7.5 hours each. 

The Duty Officer is not a direct line manager to any position, however they are responsible for overseeing the work of other operational staff on duty- such as cleaners, bar and catering staff, lifeguards, receptionists etc as well as any contractors on site. 

The Duty Officer is not responsible for any budgets. 

The Ideal Candidate

Kings Park Leisure and Learning Centre is one part of the leisure provision run internally by BCP Council, so while this is the base location, cross site working may be required to a site which does have a swimming pool. Therefore it is a requirement for all Duty Officers to hold a current and valid RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (or recognised equivilant)- the successful candidate is granted 3 months to achieve this qualification after appointment- if not already held. 

The candidate would ideally have working knowledge of leisure Emergency Action Plans and Normal Operating Procedures and proven experience in day to day management of a similar leisure facility. Experience of pool plant operations would be a benefit. 

The candidate must be dynamic, enthusiastic and work professionally with a range of other staff, contractors and members of the public and have experience in leadership/supervising others. 

They must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams. Experience in using digital CRM software and POS systems would be a benefit. Training would be provided on our specific systems.
